Things You Need to Know about Weather in Berlin
If you are planning a holiday in Berlin, then probably the following question came into your mind: which is the best time to visit Berlin, sunshine or rain? It is very important to take into account the following aspects: temperature, rainy days, sunshine hours, humidity and many other climate values. These values are published by specialized institutions and can be found on the Internet.
Germany lies in Central-Western Europe. It is bordered by nine European countries and has direct access to the Baltic and North Sea. Berlin is located in northeastern Germany and is the center of the metropolitan region Berlin-Brandenburg. The population is roughly 5 million people from over 190 countries. Berlin is located at the boundary between oceanic and continental influenced climates. That affects the average annual temperature which averages 8.9 °C and the mean annual rainfall is 581 mm. The warmest months in Berlin are July and August, with average temperatures of 18.5 and 17.7 ° C. During the summer months the daytime temperatures reach an average of 22-23 º C (72 º F). There are also heat waves with temperatures exceeding 30 º C (86 º F) which are not uncommon. The coldest months are January and February with -0.6 and -0.3 ° C on average. The area with buildings in Berlin creates a microclimate that is overheated by the heat from the buildings of the city. The temperatures can be with almost 4 °C (7 °F) higher in the city than in the surrounding areas. In Berlin, there are slight differences in height within the city and therefore there is a homogenous urban climate. In the summer period, during the night, there sometimes is a difference of 10 °C between the temperature in the city and the one from outside the city. In this aspect, Berlin has a great advantage thanks to its high number of trees and thanks to the green areas like the Big Zoo, Grunewald and the former Tempelhof airport with Hasenheide. These surfaces are called cold islands by the climatologists.
